Due to a spike in trauma cases and emergency room visits, transplants, and elective surgeries, America’s blood supply has diminished resulting in a National blood shortage. According to recent articles quoting Red Cross Biomedical Services President, Chris Hrouda, they have distributed about 75,000 more blood products than anticipated in just over the past three months.
To put the spike in perspective when compared to 2019, the Red Cross has seen demand from hospitals with trauma centers increase by 10% in 2021 which is more than five times the growth of other facilities that provide transfusions. It estimates that 20% to 40% of trauma deaths that occur after hospital admission involve massive hemorrhage resulting in the extensive use of blood products which may be required to help save a life. That is why the Red Cross is asking for Americans to take immediate action to help replenish this critical supply.
Donors can schedule an appointment via RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-Red Cross.
Hospital preparedness is also much needed in order to prepare for catastrophic hemorrhage. Our hemostatic agents, were designed to control severe bleeding on the battlefield and have been trusted by hospitals since 2018. Celox & OMNI-STAT can rapidly achieve hemostasis during hemorrhage to help reduce blood loss, the use of blood products, and may reduce the potential risks to the patient as a result of excessive bleeding. If your facility is in need of life-saving hemostatic agents, please contact us today by E-Mail or by phone at 646-417-8452.
